Howard University School of Business professor Dr. Kamal Agarwal, 72, was involved in a fatal car crash that resulted in the death of freshman Mohamed Samura, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). On April 11, Agarwal was driving at a high rate of speed on 6th Street NW and Fairmont when he failed to negotiate a left turn, striking Samura. The young student died from his injuries on April 15.
Despite his health issues, Agarwal has declined to comment on the incident. However, School of Business Dean Dr. Anthony Wilbon expressed his deep concern over Samura’s passing and offered support to those affected by the tragedy. Meetings were held with Samura’s business orientation team and close friends, as well as School of Business faculty and staff. Wilbon encouraged everyone impacted to seek professional help in their time of grief.
Agarwal has been teaching at Howard University for 23 years and specializes in information systems, network and internet security, and related areas. The Howard University Office of Communications has not provided any information on whether Agarwal will return to teaching after his recovery or if there will be changes to traffic signage near Cook Hall. An MPD investigation into the fatal crash is still ongoing, as confirmed by a lawyer representing Samura’s family.
