More than 200 Dong Nai residents now suspected of poisoning from tainted bread

On May 1-2, Long Khanh Regional General Hospital received 209 people suspected of suffering from food poisoning after consuming bread purchased from a local business in Xuan Binh ward, Long Khanh. One serious case had to be transferred to a higher hospital for further treatment. Out of these patients, 160 were treated, 5 underwent examinations and were sent home, and 43 mild cases were immediately discharged.

All the patients exhibited symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain after eating meat sandwiches from the bakery between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on April 30. Doctors diagnosed them with intestinal infections and suspected food poisoning. Fortunately, most of the patients are now in stable condition.

The Food Safety and Hygiene Department of Dong Nai province has collaborated with the Medical Center and relevant agencies in Long Khanh City to investigate the cause of the incident. The Department of Health has instructed Long Khanh Regional General Hospital to provide the best treatment conditions for the patients. The bakery that sold the bread has been operating for over 10 years but is currently suspended from business due to a lack of food safety and hygiene certification.
