Xi Jinping and Antony Blinken Emphasize Cooperation and Respect to Resolve Unresolved Issues in US-China Relationship

During a recent meeting in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed the need for cooperation and respect to resolve unresolved issues in the bilateral relationship between China and the United States. Xi emphasized the importance of setting aside differences and focusing on mutual benefit to maintain their partnership without causing harm to one another.

The two leaders acknowledged the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the US, highlighting the need for dialogue and managing differences to promote cooperation between the two nations. Xi expressed China’s desire to see a confident, open, prosperous, and developing United States, while referencing his previous meeting with US President Joe Biden. He stressed that a positive vision of China’s development from the US is necessary to stabilize, improve, and advance their relationship.

During this meeting, Wang Yi, Blinken’s Chinese counterpart, warned of negative factors increasing in bilateral relations. In response, Blinken assured that the US would address areas of disagreement clearly and directly. The visit by Blinken followed US Senate approval of a bill requiring ByteDance to sell TikTok within nine months. This development has added tension to US-China relations with implications for technology companies operating between the two countries. Despite these challenges, both China and the United States expressed a commitment to addressing issues and promoting cooperation to achieve a stable and beneficial relationship.
