Free Suicide Prevention Summit for Men Hosted by Burrell Behavioral Health in Springfield

The free suicide prevention summit for men is taking place this weekend at Hammons Field in Springfield, MO. Hosted by Burrell Behavioral Health, the event aims to address the higher male suicide rate in the area by creating opportunities for open discussions and encouraging a relaxed dialogue around serious topics. Participants can enjoy an on-field warm-up with Louie, the Springfield Cardinals mascot, as well as coffee and donuts, prize raffles, brain science exercises, and the chance to play catch and take some swings on Hammons Field.

Drew Robinson, a former professional baseball player who survived a suicide attempt, will share his own mental health journey during the event. Nia Howard, one of the event organizers, recognizes that suicide prevention can be a difficult topic to talk about, especially for men who may have been discouraged from expressing their feelings. However, she emphasizes the importance of breaking the stigma and encourages men to seek help when needed.

The summit will provide a safe space for men to come together, share their experiences, and learn how to support each other in times of need. The event will kick off at 8 a.m. on Saturday and will run until 12:45 p.m. Interested participants can register for the event by clicking on the link provided.
