Breaking the Law in Britain Leads to Exile to Africa, Over 6,000 Kilometers Away

The controversial Rwanda law, which has been passed in Britain, aims to act as a deterrent to newcomers and boost the Conservative government. The byproduct of this law is that it strengthens the trend of outsourcing the asylum process. This policy is aimed at deterring migrants and asylum seekers from trying illegal routes to Britain, particularly via the dangerous sea journey across the Channel.

Under this law, known as the “Goodbye to Africa” policy, forced flights to Rwanda will be used as a means of discouraging individuals from attempting to reach Britain through illegal means. The distance between London and Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, is over 6,000 kilometers, and there is no return to Britain from the Rwandan asylum application process.

The primary purpose of this law is to serve as a deterrent, according to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. It is also seen as a means to potentially boost the conservative government’s popularity, which has been waning in recent times. By implementing this law, the government hopes to show strength on immigration issues and potentially gain support from traditional conservative voters. Additionally, the outsourcing of the asylum process to Rwanda reflects an international trend of countries looking to external solutions for managing asylum seekers.

However, despite these intentions, concerns have been raised about the safety and fairness of sending non-Rwandans to Rwanda under this policy. The Labour Party has expressed its reservations about the law and proposed alternative approaches to addressing migration issues. The debate over how best to manage asylum seekers and immigration continues, with different political parties offering contrasting solutions
