Register for ‘Astronomy: Crafted in Latin America’

Latin America has been a hub for astronomical research and discoveries for many years, thanks to its unique locations such as ancient solar observatories in Mexico and state-of-the-art radio telescopes in the Andes. Science Friday is excited to announce a new partnership with El País: América Futura to launch a 7-week newsletter focused on astronomy and space science in Latin America.

The newsletter will feature stories on topics such as how satellites are monitoring deforestation in the Amazon, the future of astronomy in Puerto Rico following the collapse of the Arecibo telescope, and new research being conducted by Latin American women in the field. Each story will be available in both English and Spanish, catering to a wide audience interested in astronomy and space science.

Santiago Flórez, Science Friday’s community manager, will be contributing to the newsletter and sharing his expertise in astronomy and space science. As a former teacher, anthropologist, and journalist, Flórez brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the project, ensuring that readers will receive well-rounded and informative content each week. The newsletter is set to begin on May 22nd, providing readers with a unique and insightful look into the advancements and discoveries happening in Latin America’s vibrant astronomy scene.
