114 turtles were handed over by the temple and released into their natural habitat

Nam Son Pagoda, a popular destination in Da Nang, has released more than 100 turtles that were surrendered by visitors at the lake. These turtles, including striped turtles and box turtles, were voluntarily handed over to rangers by the pagoda on April 25. The Hoa Vang Forest Ranger District received a total of 114 turtles from Nam Son Pagoda in Hoa Chau commune, Hoa Vang district. Over the years, many turtles of different species have been released by people at the temple, leading to a mix of turtles living in the lake.

The forest ranger department had urged the temple to hand over the turtles, and they contacted the nature protection center in Hanoi to assist in taking the turtles to Cuc Phuong National Park. By relocating these turtles to their natural habitat in Cuc Phuong National Park, researchers can study and classify their species and determine their habitat needs. This will ensure that they can thrive in their natural environment where they belong.

Nam Son Pagoda is well-known for its stunning architecture and serene surroundings. Visitors often come to visit and pray on its grounds while enjoying its beautiful lake where many people release fish and other aquatic animals. However, due to the variety of species released into the lake over time, their habitat is not well-preserved.

This relocation effort is an important step towards preserving biodiversity and ensuring that wildlife can thrive in their natural habitats. It also sets an example for other places of worship and tourist attractions around Vietnam who can follow suit with this initiative.

Overall, Nam Son Pagoda’s decision to release these turtles into Cuc Phuong National Park is a commendable move that shows their dedication towards preserving biodiversity while continuing to attract visitors from all over Vietnam and beyond.
