Promoting Economic and Social Rights in the Face of Conflict: An Overview of Syria’s Struggle for Health and Human Rights

In the midst of ongoing conflict and crisis, Syria’s citizens are suffering from numerous violations of their economic and social rights. This document aims to provide an overview of these rights, as well as guidance on utilizing relevant human rights norms and accessing information about key UN agencies’ activities in addressing these violations.

One of the key economic and social rights outlined in international human rights law (IHRL) is the right to health. This right has been particularly important in the context of Syria’s armed conflict and crisis, where international humanitarian law (IHL) also applies. The OHCHR Syria Office plays a crucial role in advocating for state policies that promote this right and ensuring that it is upheld during times of conflict.
