The Total Solar Eclipse in 2024 was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that many people will never forget. In Hannibal, NY, the Totality 2024 Festival took place following the eclipse, and it was a memorable event that featured ambient/new age music legend Laraaji and Cornell University Astronomer Dr. Nikole Lewis.
Laraaji shared insights about representing the moon’s energy in 12 musical notes, reflecting on his time at Howard University in the 1960s, and his experience observing the Total Solar Eclipse. His Sun Piano/Moon Piano albums were a perfect fit for this event as they embody the beauty of nature and its rhythms.
Dr. Nikole Lewis also participated in the event, discussing the necessary conditions for a Total Solar Eclipse to occur, as well as topics like extraterrestrial life, Carl Sagan, and more. Her expertise added depth to the event and helped attendees better understand the science behind this incredible phenomenon.
The Totality 2024 Festival was made possible by the support of the Simons Foundation as part of its In The Path of Totality Initiative. This initiative aimed to bring together scientists, artists, and educators to celebrate this rare astronomical event and inspire future generations to explore space and science further.
