Clark recruited to join U.S. national team for training camp

Caitlin Clark, the NCAA’s all-time Division I scoring leader, has been invited to participate in the U.S.A. Basketball national team training camp during the Final Four in Cleveland. The invitation came with the condition that Iowa’s season is over. Clark has already achieved three gold medals with U.S.A. Basketball junior teams, most recently being part of the 2021 under-19 squad.

The training camp will feature nine former Olympians like Diana Taurasi, Ariel Atkins, Chelsea Gray, Brittney Griner, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, Breanna Stewart, A’ja Wilson, and Jackie Young. Notable players such as former WNBA Rookie of the Year recipients Aliyah Boston and Rhyne Howard, along with Sabrina Ionescu and Shakira Austin will also be participating in the camp.

Clark has been a significant draw for college basketball, with almost 5 million viewers tuning in to watch the Hawkeyes in their second-round match against West Virginia. The upcoming FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Belgium saw the team secure victories over host nation Nigeria and Senegal before winning gold over Australia. The team has dominated in the Olympics since 1996 and is set to face Belgium, Japan and Germany in pool play in the upcoming Olympics.

With excitement building for the upcoming training camp and Olympic games, Clark’s participation is a testament to her talent and dedication to the sport of basketball.
