Witnesses state that two thieves burglarize a business on Chicago’s West Side and make off with an ATM

In the West Town neighborhood, two thieves broke into a currency exchange on Friday morning at around 2:30 a.m. The burglary occurred in the 1500 block of West Division Street and was discovered by Chicago police who responded to a burglary call. Upon arrival, they found broken glass from the front door of the business.

According to witnesses, the unknown offenders shattered the glass, removed the ATM machine from its location, loaded it onto a white van and then fled the scene. This incident marks yet another case of ATM theft in the area. In January, a currency exchange was targeted for its ATM when thieves drove a Jeep Cherokee through the front window near Roosevelt and Jefferson Street. Another currency exchange on the city’s near West Side was also recently hit with burglars breaking the front glass door of the business to take the machine containing an unspecified amount of money. The owner mentioned that this has happened multiple times before and it is unclear if these burglaries are linked.

No one is currently in custody for this crime and Area 3 detectives continue to investigate this incident further.
