On Monday, we embarked on a short drive that led us to two potential drill targets. The prime candidate, known as “Aberlady,” showed striking similarities in color, structure, and texture to the Sol 2365 target “Longannet.” This resemblance gave the science team confidence in Aberlady as a promising site for our first drilling efforts in the clay-bearing unit.
To further evaluate Aberlady’s suitability for drilling, the science team decided to spend today conducting various observations. They used instruments like APXS and ChemCam to measure its structure, texture, and chemistry. Additionally, detailed images were taken by MAHLI to provide a closer look at Aberlady’s surface.
The data gathered from these observations will be crucial in making the final decision on whether to proceed with drilling at Aberlady. With the results expected before planning tomorrow, the anticipation of what Aberlady may reveal is high. Stay tuned for updates on our findings.
